Main Issues Discussed During the Meeting:

  1. Moshe Gaon, Chairman of the Gaon Group, and Booky Oren, Chairman of Miya, will serve as the Israeli co-chairmen of the Forum.
  2. Booky will contact Andrew Benedek (founder of Zenon Environmental, which was sold to General Electric) with an offer to serve as the U.S. Chairman of the Forum. Benedek is scheduled to visit Israel at the end of April.
  3. Objectives of the Forum:
    • To establish connections between Americans and Israelis in the cleantech industry
    • To establish a platform to exchange information, create a database and  provide updates regarding cleantech-related events in Israel and the U.S. by involving and exposing Israeli companies to the American cleantech industry through:
      • Promotion of cleantech events in the U.S. among Forum members – creating bi-national meetings in the U.S., for Forum Members, based on the existing platforms of such bodies as U.S. Chambers of Commerce; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor; The Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, etc.
      • Holding 5-6 meetings with American businessmen and government officials visiting Israel.
      • Holding relevant educational meetings for the members of the Israeli Forum (For example, discussion on regulations in the incentive programs of the Obama Administration).
  4. Action Items:
    • Receiving Andrew Benedek's acceptance to serve as Chairman of the American side (Booky will update)
    • Setting a date for the next meeting of the Israeli Board of Directors
    • Setting a date for the first meeting of the bi-national Forum, in Israel. WATEC 2009.
    • Establishing a list of cleantech events in Israel and in the U.S.
    • Updating participants on future events of the Forum.
    • Publishing a newsletter for Forum members, to include relevant events organized by the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Announces Mandatory Registration Prior to Visa-Free Travel to the United States

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the implementation of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), a Web-based system for the collection of information on Visa Waiver Program (VWP) nationals prior to boarding U.S.-bound air or sea carriers. Registration in ESTA, voluntary since August 1, 2008, will become mandatory for citizens of all 34 VWP countries on January 12, 2009. Citizens of the seven countries admitted to the VWP on November 17, 2008 (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and South Korea) are required to possess a valid ESTA travel authorization as of November 17, 2008  in order to request admission into the United States under the VWP .
